You know how, when you make a little mistake in front of someone, you might utter "sorry" and just walk on by, not really expecting an answer or whatnot?
Zoe started doing it. I think it only caught our attention because we usually have to prompt her to say "sorry" when she's hurt someone. She's just started doing it when she's forgotten something. For example, when she throws something out, we have to open the pantry door (because she's, thankfully, not able to completely do it on her own yet!) and she will do the rest, including closing the pantry door. However, one time today, she forgot to close the door. She starts to walk away, says "sorry" and turns around and closes it...Huh?? How did she know to just do that??
By the way...
10 points to the person who can guess what "monkey chums" are. Zoe calls this for one particular thing...
Care to take a wager? (and Noah, you can't tell anyone!)

As promised...pictures.
My favorite picture on my birthday...cuddling with Daddy and lots of smiles.
Look, Ma, no hands!! Pay no attention to the dirty sock. She thought she was SO cool to sit in her booster seat with her feet on the table! Notice that yellow bruise on her forehead?
This is what she felt like wearing on my birthday...her winter hat, shirt, no pants, and socks. She's a fashion model, I tell you! :)
Shopping...It's serious work!
Two-fisting chocolate. Good stuff...
One of her first meals in her booster seat...milk, water, and mac and cheese.

19...20...
Who knows when they came in..maybe when we had our sleepless nights??
Zoe officially has all of her toddler teeth.

I promise pictures tonight...after the munchkin hits the sack.

Zoe-isms, Part 1
Zoe has a bunch of words and phrases, we all know that...but do you know what they all mean?
playin' chicken--she's cooking in her kitchen
runnin' thuper fass--running super fast
penpens--penguins (this is how she asks to watch the movie "Happy Feet")
iwanna make hand bubbles--she wants to play in the water and 'wash her hands'
go potty--no, it doesn't mean to use the potty (I wish)...it means to play in the bathroom
compuler--computer
icy--this is what she calls a handful of snow...she LOVES to eat it.
benny the booool--Benny the Bull from Dora
dipit--ketchup (because you can use it to dip in, DUH)
strawbelly--strawberries
boom boom book--Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?
dorange--the color orange
--------
In other vocabulary news...Zoe is a whirlwind. I wish I could make a list of all the words she knows now. But every single day, she just suprises us with the words she comes up with, and how she uses them. Yesterday, I handed her something, and instead of saying "Thank you" like she normally does, she said "thanks". When did she learn these short cuts?!?
Categories of things, how about that?
She knows all her letters, numbers 1-12, 18, and most of her basic colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, and brown). She knows LOTS of animals and many of her body parts. She knows her immediate family and extended to her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins, and knows that their "name" is a label. When I asked her what HER name was, she said Zoe. This is new, because I used to need to say "who are you?" not, "what's your name?" She knows some of my friends' kids' names, kids she doesn't see very often. Her ability to remember things is incredible. She remembers some weird details about places I wouldn't even think about. For example, in the local grocery store's dairy dept, there's a cut out of Tony the Tiger. During Christmas, it was gone and there was a different holiday display up. She asked where the kitty was *every* time we went in.
She can also rattle off all the names to her favorite shows, Dora and Max and Ruby. She knows all the Wiggles names and even the guest stars on the ONE wiggles show she's watched (and watched, and watched, and watched).
Zoe is now able to tell us what she had for lunch at daycare and some of the things she did during the day...without a ton of prompts. No secrets with Zoe these days!
We're currently working on how old she is and how old she WILL be for her birthday.
Zoe's starting to string together 4-5 word sentences...crazy!
Favorite phrases lately?
"is too hot" (for anything that is warm or cold, btw)
"i runnin' thuper fass"
"Where's ____? Dere she is!" (and the "she" is for women, girls, men, women, cats, dogs, etc...)
"NO!"
"MINE!"
Part 2: pictures...tonight.

Cooool conversation...
First, thank you to Noah for the wonderful surprise post for my birthday. It made me smile at work this morning. :)
Daddy: I told Papa you were running fast*
Zoe: Yeah? I runnin' fass
Daddy: Yes, I told Papa.
Zoe: cooooool
*We all know that Zoe loves to run around the kitchen table in our house....She's now started to say she's "runnin' fass"
This was what was said just before I left for work...she's never used "cool" like that before.
Cool :)

Birthdays Party
Noah and I celebrated our birthdays yesterday with the grandparents, aunties, uncles, and cousins. We weren't able to get many pictures. Zoe and Jacob weren't too willing to sit for long. When she WAS able to sit...
Zoe sorted sugar packets
Jacob put stickers on Grampy's face...
And for a pensive moment...
a brief, brief moment.
Most of the time? Someone was walking around the restaurant with Zoe. Ah, this too shall pass and our daughter will be patient enough to sit through a restaurant. :)

Hummuth and cackuhth
Typical meal for Zoe...
Hummus and crackers...
See? She loves it! (no, really, she does...and asks for it at least once a week)
But, do you notice something wrong with this??
The "cackuhth" are just "decrashun" as Zoe calls it. She'd rather just scoop the hummus out with her fingers. Oh, and we made sure to hold her hair back with 2 random clips...hummus is NOT as easy to get out of hair as one might think. ;)
Ahh, Zoe. Always keep us on our toes!
And, 10 points to the one who can figure out "decrashun" :)

Sleep...
is over-rated.
Zoe has decided that waking up screaming for us, hysterical, and not wanting to go back to sleep is the *bestthingever* (but sleeping on the couch is okay). Um, sorry chickie, but at 2am...it isn't. Mostly, Noah gets up with her, which is nice for me :). The routine is just to get up and then settle back down on the couch and fall back to sleep. She just wants nothing to do with anything that resembles a bed when this happens--her crib or our bed.
Let's hope this "phase" (going on a couple of weeks) is over soon. We all need it.

And in other news...
Where do I begin??
Zoe had a fantastic Christmas....Santa was VERY generous. From another large teddy bear to the kitchen, to an easel, a bowling set, cars, books, crayons and coloring supplies, clothes and shoes, and movies...Zoe did very well. We've been trying to find places for everything. I think the house is going to explode soon...or at least groan and complain very loadly! ;)
Zoe's talking up a storm!! Every day, she amazes her Daddy and me. Just this morning, she was standing near the bathroom and saw some of her toys still out from her last bath...she says "I take bath tonight". Wow! And just before that, she looks at me and says, "I sleep all night with binkies".
In no particular order, this is what we've been up to...
I got over my bronchitis, and Zoe got another cold. We spent time as a family, went out to eat and got lots of compliments from the waitress and a stranger who enjoyed the entertainment Zoe brings to restaurants. The New Year was brought in without a lot of fanfare from our Zoe Bean. She was asleep at her normal time.
Then it was time to go back to business as usual with me to work, Noah to work, and Zoe to daycare.
Tuesday, Zoe wakes up at 12:30 and is up until 2:30.
Wednesday, Zoe wakes up at 1:30....(and didn't go back to sleep!!).
Thursday night? She slept through the night (go Z!) but it took awhile to fall asleep...she wasn't happy with us!
Friday night? So far so good! No jinxing!
Zoe's been playing playing playing...and playing. She loves her kitchen, loves her Curious George doll who rocks on a rocking horse when you squeeze his hand...in fact, she says "watch this george" and dances to him.
Zoe's artistic nature is coming out in full force. Coloring has been a something we've done at LEAST once a day. And, what does she color? In her coloring book, pictures we find online and print...blank paper. She loves it.
We build towers with blocks. Lots and lots and lots of towers. And Zoe knocks them down. But, she's been able to get some tall towers. Some get to be close to as tall as she is!
We play the "ready game". This is where I sit on the floor in front of the couch, and Zoe backs into the kitchen. She says "ready!?!??!" and I repeat. She then gives herself a count (usually 1-4) and then runs into my arms. Very fun game that ONLY mommy can play, apparently.
Zoe can now count to 12...then skips to 18. :)
Zoe knows her entire alphabet and gets great joy and in singing the ABC song.
Zoe is STILL talking about Santa Cllllauuuuus (she draws out that /au/ sound). She has been asking for "more pessants" just about every day too..
I'm sure there are more...but does this satisfy those who've been missing our Z!? :)
Next up? Video!

Happy New Year!!
"hey baby...what's your sign??"
"t-theeeeeese!!!"
Christmas Eve at Uncle Jeff and Auntie Darcy's...coloring
LOOK WHAT SANTA BROUGHT!! A favorite Christmas morning surprise!
Daddy needed "hairs" (you know, clips in Zoe speak....apparently Daddy needs to keep his long locks out of his eyes!)
The best gift...loves from Peanut
Back to the kitchen...don't YOU put the bowl on the burner and the pot IN the bowl? Don't forget the salt!
Getting something out of the oven...
Another Christmas favorite...her cars!
Oooph...the aftermath!
Kistheth with mommy :)
Christmas day at Grammy and Grampy's...having a water break with her new water bottle.
Opening up a gift!
wrestling with Jacob...
FUUUUUN!
Awww, cousin love!!
Auntie Jill gets in on the action...that hall is SO FUN!
I'm so cool...I have to wear shades!
Cooking for Daddy...gotta start young!!
This is tough work, Daddy!!
Working her new easel...
Don't magnetic letters and numbers deserve a ride in the stroller too??
Probably watching either Max and Ruby or Dora (the latest favorites in our house)
When we got home from daycare one day...Zoe asked for some Dora, grabbed her bear, blankie, and lounged on the couch. Isn't that what YOU do when you get home from work???
